Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

At ShipItBuddy, we believe in radical transparency. Building in public should never come at the expense of your personal data sovereignty. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and how you retain complete control over your data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways when you use ShipItBuddy:

  • Account Credentials: When signing in with Google OAuth, we receive your email address, full name, and avatar image URL. We never receive or store your Google password.
  • Public Maker Profile: Your chosen @username, biographical snippet, product name, product category, and external website URLs.
  • Shipped Updates & Content: The titles, Markdown notes, links, milestone tags, and timestamps of updates you choose to publish on your ship log.
  • Technical Data: Basic browser metadata, referral source, and IP addresses used strictly for security monitoring and spam prevention.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used exclusively to deliver the ShipItBuddy product experience:

  • To host and display your public maker profile and interactive shipping heatmap.
  • To compute streak continuity, milestone badges, and total ships statistics.
  • To render embeddable live changelog widgets when requested by external websites.
  • To deliver real-time notifications when another maker follows you or likes your ship log.
  • To safeguard the community against automated bots, spam, and malicious activity.

We never sell your data, rent personal information, or monetize your activity with invasive third-party ad networks.

3. Public vs. Private Information

ShipItBuddy is a build-in-public platform. By default, your @username, profile bio, avatar, shipping heatmap, and published ship logs are publicly accessible to anyone on the internet.

However, we provide granular maker privacy controls: you can choose to make your product name or product URL visible only to verified makers who are logged into the platform.

4. Data Retention & Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

You maintain full sovereignty over your data under international privacy regulations including GDPR and CCPA:

  • Right to Edit & Delete: You can edit or remove any of your published ship logs directly from your profile at any time.
  • Right to Account Erasure: You can request permanent deletion of your maker profile and all associated data by contacting our support team.
  • Right to Export: You can request an export of all your published log history in standard JSON format.

5. Third-Party Infrastructure

We host our database and authentication services on Google Cloud and Firebase Firestore, operating in SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified data centers with encrypted data in transit and at rest.
